Fun-Time Class - Intro to Glassblowing - FWFT01

'Intro to Glassblowing' is a well rounded introduction to flameworking. This two hour class is one of the six classes offered in the Fun-Time Workshop series. This  class will not only prepare you with all the information you will need to begin melting glass in the flame safely but you will also be able to get behind the torch and make a set of drink stirrers to take home.  Those who take this class become certified to come back and rent studio time, use the studio tools, and get additional one-on-one tutoring. If you are looking for an introduction class that is geared towards bead making, marble making, sculpture, jars and vessels, or pendant making, you might choose another class.

Save $100 if you purchase all six classes in the Fun-Time class in advance.

On this page you will find:

What to Expect

What is glassblowing? What can be made through glassblowing? How does one stay safe? Can you make money as a glassblower? Can I do this at home? How much fun can glassblowing be? Join us and find out.

Join us for this fact filled fun class and discover why we love glassblowing so much. All of the 'Intro' classes are made for beginners and those who have very little flameworking experience.

It begins with a group discussion, then one of our artist will perform a few demonstrations, and to top it all off, you will get on the torch and make a set of drink stirrers to take home.

In this class we will learn:

  • Health and Safety
  • Studio Operations
  • Tool Usage
  • Basics of Glass Manipulation
  • How to Make and Finish a Work of Art
  1. You will show up at least 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin.
  2. You will sign a release form and if you are a new student, you will register as a student of Glass Monkey Art Studio.
  3. Then we will all join one of the tutors in the class room for an hour of discussion regarding safety, studio policies, studio operations, torch use instructions, glass rotation exercises, and all the things you will need to know before getting on the torch. You will also receive hand-outs to take home and study at a later date.
  4. Then you will be spending time with a tutor in the studio.    The tutor will demonstrate the process of making a set of drink stirrers.
  5. You will receive materials to play with.
  6. At this point you will get on the torch and a tutor will guide you through the process of making your own set of drink stirrers.
  7. When you finish your drink stirrers, the tutor will put them in the kiln to be annealed.  They can be picked up as soon as the next day and taken home.

There will be some functional art glass items for sale if you are interested in looking at what we have in stock while you are here for your class.

The cost of this class is $100. If you want to reserve your spot in one of next scheduled time slots,
